BUSINESS MODEL

Watershed Hydrology Consultants LLC (WatHydro) has a unique approach to providing watershed assessment and watershed management services. Small projects may be addressed with one staff member. More complex projects are addressed by tailoring a team of associates for the project. WatHydro can draw on university faculty, advanced graduate students, or other associates in the private sector to tailor the expertise needed for a wide variety of projects. We can also form temporary partnerships with other forestry, environmental, or engineering firms to address complex projects. Luis Eduardo Carrasco

Luis Carrasco, an environmental assessment and geographic information systems specialist, has 10 years of combined research and professional experience. Areas of expertise include forest ecosystems and forest management, environmental impact assessment, multi-scale environmental analysis, and applied spatial statistics. He has excellent command of Spanish and English, and is conversant in French. Luis has expertise in various software packages for GIS, remote sensing, statistical analysis and environmental modeling, relational database management systems, and programming. Thomas P. Colson

Tom Colson is a specialist in watershed assessment using GIS, GPS, and watershed modeling tools. With five years of experience as an information technology officer prior to beginning graduate school, Tom is a Microsoft Certified Professional and Cisco Certified Network Associate. He is highly skilled in all aspects of DEM production from LiDAR data, standard ArcGis tools for watershed assessment, GIS tools for stream mapping, and GIS applications in watershed hydrologic modeling. Tom is also an expert in wetland delineation and stream determination and the preparation and submission of permit applications. An instructor in the Dept. of Forestry and Environmental Resources at NC State University, Tom teaches graduate courses in hydrologic applications of GIS and wetland assessment and delineation. Sam Taylor, President & GIS Specialist
Southern Geospatial Services, LLC

Southern Geospatial Services is a Geographic Information Systems services firm dedicated to providing complete GIS solutions. Company focus is on using GIS to assist in environmental research, conservation activities, and ecologically sound development practices. Expertise in ESRI ArcGIS products with proficiency in ERDAS IMAGINE, ER Mapper, GPS Pathfinder Office, SAS, and Microsoft Access and Excel. Technical and research experience includes a diversity of GIS analyses, geodatabase construction, GPS field data collection, and various types of hydrologic and vegetation field data collection activities. Education: BA, Biology and Marine Ecology, UNC Chapel Hill; Masters in Natural Resources, Spatial Information Systems, NC State University.

Dr. Jon Stucky

Dr. Stucky is Professor of Plant Biology at NC State University and specializes in teaching courses on wetland plants. He teaches field botany courses in Systematic Botany; Grasses, Sedges & Rushes; Wetland Flora; and Local Flora and also teaches workshops on wetland plant identification and the vegetation component of wetland delineation training courses. Jon maintains online resources for identification of common NC wetland plants and his research focus is Rare Plant Species Conservation. Highly skilled in field plant identification, especially wetland and endangered plant species, Jon has much research experience on plant community assessments and plant ecology. Education: B.S.E. 1967, M.S. 1970, Kansas State Teachers College; Ph.D. 1974, Texas Tech. University.
